Our History
The foundation for Ballaghafadda House Stud is something that has been laid down through three family generations of the Lyons family. It is suitably typified by my grandfather’s reconditioned cavesson which is still used to this day. My grandfather Michael ‘Miko’ Lyons, broke young horses with this cavesson down by the banks of the river Fergus which flows through the village of Clarecastle in county Clare, on the west coast of Ireland. Passed down through the generations, knowledge, horsemanship and animal husbandry combined.
My late father, Patrick Lyons, and my uncle Michael Lyons, grew up with horses who were used to work the land on their farm at Knocknamana, Clarecastle. Horses were the centerpiece of their world for the selfless work and determination they showed. And now, all those years later, at ‘Ballaghafadda House Stud’, Clarecastle, those same values and work ethic holds true.
My father Patrick Lyons bred the first foal born at Ballaghafadda back in 2006. In doing so, a path was forged. Tradition, passion, and love of nature has been forever instilled in what we do here at Ballaghafadda House Stud as we continue sport horse breeding into the future in this beautiful part of the world.
Owner, Barry Lyons: We look forward to speaking with you in relation to our breeding business or indeed connecting you to your dream horse.
